We watched Black Widow a little while ago, and it was fine! Solid action, and the new characters were great. Especially Yelena. There’s just one problem with the movie – there’s no reason for it to exist in the MCU, except for setting up other shit. The character of Black Widow is currently dead (and… Continue reading Marvel’s Black Widow Problem
I’m enjoying Marvel’s Avengers. It’s not a bad game. It’s decent. Everything about it is decent. Decent animations, skins, story, and so on. What’s weird and off-putting is wrapping all of that around a live-service engine.
It’s kind of shocking how quickly the tables have turned on the big two in the comics industry. Just a few years ago, while DC was languishing under the “New 52”, Marvel was having a creative boom. Whether it was Matt Fraction and David Aja bringing a fresh take to Hawkeye, their first headlining Muslim… Continue reading Marvel’s Biggest Missed Opportunity
Before you start this book, know that while it’s got Black Widow in the name, it’s both about her, and not exactly about her. If it might bother you to discover the story is told mostly through the viewpoint of a teenaged girl that has an…interesting connection to Natasha, as some other reviewers seem to,… Continue reading Book Review – Black Widow: Forever Red
note: some spoilers There’s a huge reason Captain America: Civil War works and Batman v Superman doesn’t, and that’s emotional investment. I know Zack Snyder and DC/WB wanted to do thing their own way and not ape Marvel’s so far successful approach, but when you are rebooting two legendary characters and making significant changes, you… Continue reading Movie Review – Captain America: Civil War
The best description I’ve seen for this new Black Widow comic is it’s the cold open to a new James Bond movie, but starring our favorite super-spy. It’s pure action. Seriously all we learn is, Widow steals *something* from SHIELD and busts out of a helicarrier. That’s all we know, but it’s A-OK because that… Continue reading Comic Book Review – Black Widow #1 (2016)
Marvel’s latest mobile game is Avengers Academy, which is one of those thing where they reimagine existing characters (hero and villain) as teenagers. It works well here, as it seems like there’s some time travel-type shenanigans hinted at as far as the story goes. It’s by TinyCo, and if you’ve played one of their other… Continue reading Mobile Game Review – Marvel’s Avengers Academy
Be warned: Spoilers, I have them. I’ve been struggling with how to approach reviewing The Avengers. I mean, I’m a comic guy from way back, but not an obsessive one. Iron Man is one of my favorites, and I’m not sure I can be entirely impartial. Had I stayed up last night (got home at 1:30am)… Continue reading Movie Review – The Avengers
