Vanek - Great Picture

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I just love this picture.  Derek Roy looks genuinely pleased for TV.  Spacek looks suspicious - perhaps he’s trying to intimidate the refs, knowing how ridiculous some of the calls were last year.  Timmy was distracted by something shiny.  Spotted at Sabres.com.

Lines

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Now that things have settled a bit, I thought I’d look at the potential line combinations for this year.  Keep in mind I’m not 100% sure who can be sent to Roches…er…Portland to start the season.  Anyway, what the lines will most likely look like:
Hecht - Connolly - Pominville
Vanek - Roy - Afinogenov
Paille - Gaustad [...]

That’s My Boy - Derek Roy

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Sabres.com has a gallery of Roy’s best pictures from last season, including my personal favorite above (NOM NOM NOM). Since I sponsor him at hockey-reference, it’s only fitting that I point it out.

Clever Marketing and Fanhood COLLIDE!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I am now the proud ’sponsor’ of Derek Roy.  Sports-Reference.com recently started up a hockey site to go with their baseball, basketball and football offerings, and it’s paid for by the ability to ’sponsor’ teams, players, coaches, and so on.  It looks like a good place to go to answer some of the stat-related inquiries [...]

Ruff Makes His Point

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

The Buffalo Sabres ended their season on a high note, shutting out the Boston Bruins 3-0.  Jocelyn Thibault got the shutout, and Thomas Vanek (thanks to some unselfish play from Derek Roy) had all three goals for the natural hat trick.  Coach Ruff had the team playing a boring, defensive game to make a point [...]

Max Factors In To The Playoff Picture

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

The Buffalo Sabres managed to survive in the playoff race one more day thanks to a timely shootout goal from Maxim Afinogenov, winning 4-3 in the skills comp.  It looked bleak after the first minute of the game though, as jerkwad Darcy Tucker scored to put the Leafs up 1-0.  Kaberle increased their lead to [...]

Barely Breathin’

Friday, March 28th, 2008

The Sabres kept their scant playoff hopes alive with a rare shootout win last night against the Ottawa Senators.  Jason Spezza opened the scoring unassisted, but Maxim Afinogenov matched him a minute later.  Jochen Hecht got his 22nd on the power play to finish the first period with a 2-1 lead.
Buffalo then assisted Mike Fisher [...]

Gameday - Sabres at Senators

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Buffalo travels to Ottawa tonight for the back end of a home-and-home series with the Sens.  Derek Roy  is expected to play after hurting his leg in the horrific loss on Tuesday.  It’s just about to the point where the Sabres need to win out to have any shot at the 8th seed in the [...]

Sabres Storm Back in Third to Win 7-4

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

You almost feel bad for the Lightning, who probably thought they had this game in the bag after 2 periods.  Buffalo looked downright terrible at times, with giveaways and gaffes costing them goals early.  However, strong play from their current captain and the newly-reunited Roy-Vanek-Stafford line pulled it out for em’.
Jeff Halpern and Martin St. [...]

So, Timmy: Are we done?

Monday, March 17th, 2008

With news that the oft-injured but sometimes dazzling Tim Connolly may not even play after this little break, well, see the poll:
Personally, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tiring of the whole ‘is he playing or isn’t he??’ crap that we’ve had with him the past few weeks.  I think it had a [...]
