Sabres Preseason Schedule

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Sabres.com has the preseason schedule up, including a game against the Canadiens in the city that won CBC’s Hockeyville contest (Roberval, Quebec).  Annoyed here as usual that the Sabres seem to play every game away, only 2 of the 7 games are at home (not calling a Habs game in Quebec neutral site).  Two preseason [...]

Canadiens at Sabres for Home Opener

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

The Sabres report that their first regular season opponent will be the Montreal Canadiens on October 10th.  Also mentioned are the three ‘at-large’ games, wherein Buffalo faces off against Detroit, Anaheim and Phoenix.  And just to review:
This season, the NHL has revised its scheduling format. Each team will continue to play an 82-game schedule, but [...]

NHL Playoff Picture

Monday, April 21st, 2008

A few more team advanced to the next round of the playoffs over the weekend, but not the defending champs.  The Dallas Stars took out the Ducks in 6 games, and join the Avalanche and the Red Wings coming out of the West.  Kipper forced game 7 for Calgary as the Flames shut out the [...]

Playoff Update

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Three series are underway in the East, with Montreal, Pittsburgh and the New York Rangers all holding a 1-0 lead.  Montreal scored twice in the first two minutes (one each from the Kostitsyns) and took the body on the supposedly more physical Bruins.  I’d vote the Bruins most likely team to get swept if the [...]

Stanley Cup Playoffs Start Tonight!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Dave posted a good breakdown of the matchups over at BfloBlog, but I thought I’d put my two cents in. I pretty much agree with all of his ‘wants’ - I want the Sens to get owned, I like the Flames and Iginla, and the NYR/NJ series should end in a bus accident where both teams are incapacitated.

No Playoffs for the Sabres

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Buffalo was beaten 3-1 by the Montreal Canadiens last night, thus ending all hopes of sneaking in to the playoffs.  The Sabres (as has happened numerous times this year) did not play a complete 60 minute game and it cost them.  Ales Kotalik scored the only Sabre goal on the power play with 8 minutes [...]

Gameday - Sabres at Canadiens

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Jaroslav Spacek will be back in the lineup after missing 10 games tonight, as Buffalo faces off against Montreal for their playoff lives.  Dan Paille is banged up but said he would play.  Carey Price will be the Montreal netminder for the 7:30pm start.  No info on who will be scratched to make room for [...]

Gameday - Canadiens at Sabres

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Buffalo has a chance to gain some ground tonight, as the Montreal Canadiens visit HSBC Arena at 7:30pm.  The Sabres ‘improved’ to 3-9 in the shootout with the victory over the Senators last night to keep pace with Boston and Washington.  Both are idle tonight, although Philly is playing New Jersey.
One concern I have is [...]

Another Lackluster Sabres Weekend

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Two more weekend games, two more losses for the Buffalo Sabres.  Friday’s game was a 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens was particularly painful, with Plekanec scoring 3 power play goals.  Vanek continued his hot streak with his 27th goal of the season, and Connolly scored as well, both also on the PP.
The next game, [...]

Gameday - Canadiens at Sabres

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Montreal is in town tonight for a 7:30pm game at HSBC Arena.  The Sabres are coming off their first win of the post-Soupy era, with a huge contribution from Steve Bernier.  Bernier has fallen in love with Buffalo, and after that game, the feeling is mutual.  If he can keep the energy up like that [...]
