Um, OOPS

I would like to thank Thermaltake for the robust heatsink I put on my shiny new dual-core CPU…which saved my ass when I forget to plug the fan in the last time I installed it.  It took a marathon session of Fallout 3 to get the system hot enough to shut down.  I’m impressed.

Can we ignore the Bills now?  Am I the only one glad that the first game that counts played up there was so shitty?  JP’s statline is EXACTLY what I kept thinking it would be, although I figured he’d get a garbage-time TD.  One INT, 4 sacks, 50%.  They need a pass rush, and Schobel is NOT it.

I’m not sure what to make of the Sabres’ 4-3 win over the Lightning.  It’s good to not lose, sure, but giving up the tying goal within a minute of scoring to go ahead sucks.  That happened twice (the first goals were scored 3 minutes apart).  Miller was being screened (often by his own players) for them but still.  Not much to feel good about, except for the PK.

One other thing - what is with the NHL trend to have a third jersey with a wordmark on the front?  ESPECIALLY if the word is not your team name, but a nickname.  The Lightning wore them on Saturday (nice shade of blue, but BOLTS?), but the Senators are just plain ugly:

The Arena League called, Bon Jovi and Jaws need these back

The Arena League called, Bon Jovi and Jaws need these back

Ugh.  Sabres play Monday at the Igloo, against the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Get out the radios, also, as it’s on Versus.  I’m calling 4 as the number of times they interrupt showing the game to show an interview with Sid.

Bills, Edwards Concussed

We weren’t sure at the time, but the Bills game at the Buzzsaw was over just 3 plays in for Buffalo.  Adrian Wilson came untouched on a blitz and drove Bills QB Trent Edwards into the ground.  Edwards was KO’d despite the hit not looking all THAT bad, and even when he was being carted off the field, still looked dazed (did you notice the guy holding Edwards up in the seat of the cart?).  From then on, the game was vintage JP Losman, with a big play to Lee Evans, a rushing TD from Losman, but also too many sacks taken, 2 lost fumbles and an interception.  The Cardinals won 41-17, dropping the Bills to 4-1.  Hopefully we’ll know more about Trent today.

Depleted Bills Beat Even More Depleted Colts

Buffalo, minus Trent Edwards, beat the Indianapolis Colts, minus Manning and Sorgi, 20 to 7 last night.  The second-biggest news of the night was Langston Walker hurting his arm (x-rays negative, just a ‘bad bruise’) which fed into the biggest news from Adam Schefter that Peters may be planning to miss regular season games in his hold out.  Ugh.  Anyway, the offense played well last night, moving the ball again, just like last week.  The D snagged 4 turnovers, including Terrence McGee returning a fumble recovery for a TD.

“Special” recognition goes to the NFL Network crew working the game, which basically had three analysts (Sterling Sharpe, Marshall Faulk and Deion Sanders) and no veteran play-by-play man.  Sharpe only managed to mention what was happening sometimes, and it’s not like the other two are any great shakes as far as analysis goes.  Boo, NFL Network.

Pre-Season Gameday: Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills of Toronto

So the Bills in Toronto crap hits the fan tonight, with lame ‘official tailgate’ parties (and other attempts at tailgating will be policed)and Rogers Communications hinting that they want more games.  I’ll be watching, as I realized the other day that I did miss football but I really hope Edwards plays a quarter AT LEAST.  I don’t want him to suck for 6 plays and then have Losman look good.

The Week(end) That Was

It was a busy Buffalo sports weekend, and while I didn’t see everything, there was definitely some things worth noting.  The Sabres looked surprisingly strong in their 2 losses, outshooting both opponents by a wide margin but just not finding the net enough.  As will happen when you are struggling, the post was not friendly and the zebras swallowed their whistles at inopportune times.  Possibly the most important stretch of this division game run is on the way, as the Sabres will be battling with the Sens and Habs for the next 5 games.  Getting some points out of these games is CRUCIAL and would make a playoff run easier.

In Bills news, JP Losman looked like crap right up until the fourth quarter, when he went 6-7 and had some important QB sneaks on 2 scoring drives to pull out the win against the Dolphins.  Marshawn Lynch got the TD run and 2pt conversion to tie but left the game afterwards with an ankle injury.  JP is getting the start against the Patriots, no info yet on Lynch’s status.
