Lines

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Now that things have settled a bit, I thought I’d look at the potential line combinations for this year.  Keep in mind I’m not 100% sure who can be sent to Roches…er…Portland to start the season.  Anyway, what the lines will most likely look like:
Hecht - Connolly - Pominville
Vanek - Roy - Afinogenov
Paille - Gaustad [...]

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

For my friends who don’t follow hockey and hear me going on about Patrick Kaleta (THE Kaleta!), here are some highlights:

Sabres Win The Weekend

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

This was just what the Sabres’ needed to get right with the playoff race, two regulation wins, and both in resounding fashion. First off was a 7-1 smackdown of the Carolina Hurricanes that was owned by the muckers and grinders. Paille, Mair, Gaustad and The Kaleta! all scored for Buffalo, with Derek Roy [...]

Gameday - Sabres at Penguins (updated)

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

The Buffalo Sabres travel to the Igloo to face the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, and they do so without Andrew Peters.  Peters was suspended for one game for hitting Colton Orr while he was on the bench.  Peters was retaliating for a hit that Orr put on a Sabres player that put him into the bench [...]

Another Worrisome Shootout Loss for the Sabres

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Despite a parade of Rangers to the penalty box (including a full 2 minute 5 on 3), the Sabres could not pull away from the Rangers, and it cost them as they lost another shootout.  That puts the team’s record at 2-9 in the skills competition.  Miller is letting in 50% of shots taken on [...]

Another Lackluster Sabres Weekend

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

Two more weekend games, two more losses for the Buffalo Sabres.  Friday’s game was a 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens was particularly painful, with Plekanec scoring 3 power play goals.  Vanek continued his hot streak with his 27th goal of the season, and Connolly scored as well, both also on the PP.
The next game, [...]

The Kaleta - Penalties Drawn

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Kevin from Buffalo Roots wondered last night in BflBlog’s open thread about The Kaleta’s penalty drawing prowess. Behind the Net tracks that, and the numbers for Patrick are outstanding. He’s the best of any player with at least 20 games, drawing 5.2 penalties per 60 minutes of play after last night.

Sabres Pounce on Predators 8-4

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Steve Bernier didn’t take long to make an impression on Buffalo Sabres fans, scoring the first two goals of the game and adding an assist as the Sabres pounded the Preds 8 to 4.

Gameday - Sabres at Lightning

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

The Sabres’ first game back from the All-Star break is in Tampa against the Lightning.  Max and Tim are still on the mend, although Afinogenov is ‘days away’ while Connolly will need a few more practices before Lindy will bring him back.  Connolly also has a bone spur in his hip that will require off-season [...]

Shootout Changes for the Sabres

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I was listening to Paul Hamilton on the way into work today, and it was mentioned that some surprising players may be in early for the next shootout. Michael Ryan has won the last two shootout competitions, Patrick Kaleta has done well, as has Goose.
