Lines

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Now that things have settled a bit, I thought I’d look at the potential line combinations for this year.  Keep in mind I’m not 100% sure who can be sent to Roches…er…Portland to start the season.  Anyway, what the lines will most likely look like:
Hecht - Connolly - Pominville
Vanek - Roy - Afinogenov
Paille - Gaustad [...]

Barely Breathin’

Friday, March 28th, 2008

The Sabres kept their scant playoff hopes alive with a rare shootout win last night against the Ottawa Senators.  Jason Spezza opened the scoring unassisted, but Maxim Afinogenov matched him a minute later.  Jochen Hecht got his 22nd on the power play to finish the first period with a 2-1 lead.
Buffalo then assisted Mike Fisher [...]

Sabres Storm Back in Third to Win 7-4

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

You almost feel bad for the Lightning, who probably thought they had this game in the bag after 2 periods.  Buffalo looked downright terrible at times, with giveaways and gaffes costing them goals early.  However, strong play from their current captain and the newly-reunited Roy-Vanek-Stafford line pulled it out for em’.
Jeff Halpern and Martin St. [...]

Sabres Win The Weekend

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

This was just what the Sabres’ needed to get right with the playoff race, two regulation wins, and both in resounding fashion. First off was a 7-1 smackdown of the Carolina Hurricanes that was owned by the muckers and grinders. Paille, Mair, Gaustad and The Kaleta! all scored for Buffalo, with Derek Roy [...]

Sabres Playoff Hopes Limp On

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Buffalo got a point from taking the Hurricanes to OT, but sit 4 points out of the playoffs as of now.  Hecht returned to the lineup, but Tallinder did not make the trip.  Roy, Angry Eyebrows and Lydman had the Buffalo goals, and Miller was instrumental in keeping the Sabres in it at the end, [...]

Gameday - Canadiens at Sabres

Friday, February 29th, 2008

Montreal is in town tonight for a 7:30pm game at HSBC Arena.  The Sabres are coming off their first win of the post-Soupy era, with a huge contribution from Steve Bernier.  Bernier has fallen in love with Buffalo, and after that game, the feeling is mutual.  If he can keep the energy up like that [...]

Gameday - Flyers at Sabres

Monday, February 25th, 2008

After an ugly (for both teams) loss to the Rangers this weekend, the Sabres try to regroup tonight against the freefalling Flyers.  Hecht will most likely miss tonight’s game, and the lineup will be the same as against the Rangers (including the second NHL game for prospect Marc-Andre Gragnani).  The Flyers will be without the [...]

Miller Injured in Shootout Loss to Thrashers

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

To be honest, as soon as Miller went down in the second period, I sort of stopped worrying about the outcome of the game.  I thought Ryan’s bell had just been rung by hitting his helmet on the post, but when you watch the replay, you see him react a few seconds AFTER that…and unfortunately, [...]

Sabres Build Early Lead to Beat Lightning

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Ryan Miller weathered an early barrage from the Tampa Bay Lightning, then MacArthur, Hecht and Pominville took over from there to lead Buffalo to the 4-2 win.  Pominville made a nice pass on the break to MacArthur for his 6th goal of the year, and Clarke returned the favor later in the first to build [...]

Roy Nets 2 to Beat the Stars

Friday, January 25th, 2008

So THAT’S what a close win feels like.  I’d almost forgotten with all the losses and the shootouts and the hurting.  Derek Roy scored both Buffalo goals (with able assistance from Stafford and Vanek) to beat the Dallas Stars last night.  Stu Barnes had the only Dallas goal, thanks in part to Soupy.  Miller made [...]
