More From Miller

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Sabres.com also has a short Q and A with Ryan Miller.  I really enjoy reading or listening to what Ryan Miller says, as he always comes off as deep-thinking and serious.  He knows he’s got a good thing, playing a sport for a living.  Here are some of my favorite lines:
but for me it’s a [...]

Lines

Monday, July 7th, 2008

Now that things have settled a bit, I thought I’d look at the potential line combinations for this year.  Keep in mind I’m not 100% sure who can be sent to Roches…er…Portland to start the season.  Anyway, what the lines will most likely look like:
Hecht - Connolly - Pominville
Vanek - Roy - Afinogenov
Paille - Gaustad [...]

Gaustad In The Fold

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Paul Gaustad of the Buffalo Sabres has signed a 4 year, 9.2 million dollar deal according to TSN.  Goose was set to be a restricted free agent noon tomorrow, and now Paille, MacArthur and Bernier are the remaining RFAs.  Good to see him back, although the number sounds a tad high.  I guess that’s where [...]

Sabres Extend Qualifying Offers

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Darcy Regier and the Buffalo Sabres announced that they have extended qualifying offers to all 5 of their restricted free agents.  Steve Bernier, Paul Gaustad, Dan Paille, Mark Mancari and Clarke MacArthur are the players in question.  In case you are wondering what that means:
By extending an offer, Buffalo retains the rights to each player [...]

World Championships - May 2-18

Friday, April 11th, 2008

The World Championships are May 2-18th, and Team USA has announced the first 17 players on the roster.  Western New York is well represented (though in part because the Sabres did not make the playoffs), as Patrick Kane (S. Buffalo) and Lee Stempniak (West Seneca) made the team.  Buffalo Sabres Paul Gaustad, Jason Pominville and Drew Stafford are [...]

Barely Breathin’

Friday, March 28th, 2008

The Sabres kept their scant playoff hopes alive with a rare shootout win last night against the Ottawa Senators.  Jason Spezza opened the scoring unassisted, but Maxim Afinogenov matched him a minute later.  Jochen Hecht got his 22nd on the power play to finish the first period with a 2-1 lead.
Buffalo then assisted Mike Fisher [...]

Sabres Storm Back in Third to Win 7-4

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

You almost feel bad for the Lightning, who probably thought they had this game in the bag after 2 periods.  Buffalo looked downright terrible at times, with giveaways and gaffes costing them goals early.  However, strong play from their current captain and the newly-reunited Roy-Vanek-Stafford line pulled it out for em’.
Jeff Halpern and Martin St. [...]

Sabres Win The Weekend

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

This was just what the Sabres’ needed to get right with the playoff race, two regulation wins, and both in resounding fashion. First off was a 7-1 smackdown of the Carolina Hurricanes that was owned by the muckers and grinders. Paille, Mair, Gaustad and The Kaleta! all scored for Buffalo, with Derek Roy [...]

Sabres Pounce on Predators 8-4

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

Steve Bernier didn’t take long to make an impression on Buffalo Sabres fans, scoring the first two goals of the game and adding an assist as the Sabres pounded the Preds 8 to 4.

Miller Shines in 1-0 Shutout of Leafs

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Sabres goalie Ryan Miller outdueled Vesa Toskala of the Leafs for the 1-0 victory last night at HSBC Arena.  Paul Gaustad scored the only goal of the game in the third period (off Toskala’s head) thanks to hard work behind the net by Dan Paille.  Nik Antropov was draped over Paille but he managed to duck [...]
