Carcillo VS Dorsett - BADASS

YouTube Preview Image

Click through to YouTube to see it in High Quality mode.  If you like hockey fights at ALL, you owe to yourself to watch this one, despite the teams featured (Columbus and Phoenix).  Huge bombs were getting landed by both guys, just when you thought one was taking control, the other would come over the top and start landing.  Good job, boys.  H/T to Hockeyfights.

Canadiens at Sabres for Home Opener

The Sabres report that their first regular season opponent will be the Montreal Canadiens on October 10th.  Also mentioned are the three ‘at-large’ games, wherein Buffalo faces off against Detroit, Anaheim and Phoenix.  And just to review:

This season, the NHL has revised its scheduling format. Each team will continue to play an 82-game schedule, but the breakdown of opponents has changed. Each team will play their divisional opponents six times (24 games in total), four games against each non-divisional conference opponent (40 games in total), one game against each of the 15 non-conference opponents and three “at large” games.

Rest of the sched tomorrow.

It started so well…

It’s been a few days since I’ve posted about the Sabres, partly because I haven’t gotten to watch much of the games.  I DID see the awesome beatdown of the Thrashers, and was all set for that to be the beginning of a dominant stretch.

Never mind.

I was unable to listen to the rest of the last game against the Coyotes, thanks to Kevin Sylvester calling a bunch of soft goals.  My thought was the Sabres would win one of these two before the break, and break off some wins on some weaker teams afer.  They can still do that, but Dallas is a tougher nut to crack than Phoenix, Bryzgalov or no Bryzgalov.

Random Sports Nonsense

Get Steve Downie out of the NHL NOW. As if a 20 game suspension this year was not enough, Downie sucker punched Jason Blake (you know, a guy who has leukemia) after the linesmen had separated them. Blake, unable to protect himself as a linesman had his arms, had a huge shiner under is left eye after the game. The Flyers won the game on the back of Antero Niitymaki, who had 54 saves.

Speaking of jerks, Bob Knight is an ass to bring out his grandson and use him as a prop during a press conference. That kid’s gonna need therapy.

What I saw of the NFL Wild Card games was pretty awesome. Lead changes, big plays, I wish I had been able to watch all of both games.

By the way, how about those Coyotes? Great improvement for Gretzky’s team.
