Section 6 - The Dark Knight (not that one)

TheTick

As the three remaining plucky adventurers advance slowly into the last remaining room, they see that what looked like a sarcophagus from a distance was actually a table with a tall, humanoid body on it. there are bright bits of gold winking from within the dust that covers the floor. The body is laid out with respect, and appears to have the tabard and belts of a knight.  Suddenly, the moldering corpse sits up, lifting an old, rusted morningstar in one hand and a javelin in the other. As it climbs off the table, its mouth opens to loose an eerie moan..."I...hungerrrrr."

Roll your initiative!  Sure hope this guy doesn't kill you while Taggart is trying to rebuild a shelter! :D

The roaring barbarian is a sight to behold, hewing great chunks of rancid flesh from the zombified knight (2 hits, -14hp), though it's movements seem unaffected.

I'm assuming Taggart will spend the round entering the room and closing to butt-kicking range.  Zedric turn forthcoming.

TheTick

Taggart hears the call for help and re-enters the room to see Yiki's impressive display of axe-work.  Zedric, as if waking from a daze, steps off to one side and stretches out his hand.  He murmurs under his breath, and a great gout of flame leaps forth, burning the zombie knight. (-2hp)

Imfei is next.  Zedric is standing to one side, trying to keep the stone table the zombie was on between him and it.  Taggart is within swinging range for next round.  Imfei can attack this round.

Imfei's slash can't match the ferocity of Yiki's, but she does cut the zombie knight deeply. (hit, -5hp)  The knight throws the javelin at Yiki from point-blank range, but the angry barbarian bats it aside. (miss)

Forgotten attacks of opportunity here:

The zombie knight is thrown off-balance by the awkward short range javelin attack, and the three combatants surrounding it take advantage.  Taggart's swing is wide of the mark, but Imfei and Yiki strike true, blasting yet more pieces off the rotted corpse. (-14 hp)  The creature is tottering, but is still standing.

roll for me master/ tick

TheTick

Yiki hurls himself at the zombie with animal ferocity yet again, axes chopping and crushing until the knight finally falls. (DEAD again)  Everyone seems to pause and look around before straightening up and letting out a huge sigh of relief.

Taggart kneels down and examines the morningstar, and is dismayed to find that the haft is half-rotted and the head is rusty and brittle.  He thinks to himself that it might very well have broken over Yiki's hard head, but thinks better of actually saying that out loud.  Yiki stalks over and roughly turns the zombie knight over, and spots a battleaxe hanging at the dead bugbear's side.  Turning it around in his hands, he sees it's of impressive quality, and unlike the rest of the gear, has stood up to the exposure and lake of care.  He claims it as a trophy of his kill.

Still kneeling, Taggart notices a glint on the ground where the zombie had fallen.  He finds a few gold pieces, and soon everyone is searching the ground, and eventually find about 250 gp in total.

Yay team!  Maybe individual enemies aren't so good for fighting barbarians...food for thought in the future. :D  I will post a new "Aftermath" thread shortly.

Lotofsnow

Staring down at his fallen foe, Yiki hesitates only a moment before reaching for its desiccated hand. With a swift tug, he rips a finger from the hand and slips it into his belt pouch.
