  • LEGO Fireboat

My son’s birthday party was this weekend, and he got a supercool LEGO toy from my parents: It’s a Fireboat that you can actually put in water, complete with a motor! It’s a far cry from the LEGO toys of my youth. He was very good putting it together, too, and he’s so proud of…

  • Wall-Climbing Robot

Check this out: Researchers at SRI International have come up with a wall-climbing robot – one that uses electro-adhesion to attach to the wall. There is a video at the Popular Mechanics link, which shows a tracked ‘vehicle’ climbing up a normal household wall. Pretty neat technology. Spotted at Gizmodo.

  • Firefox 3 – Fastest Web Browser?

That’s what Lifehacker asserts, especially in JavaScript performance. Gmail is improved as well. Click the link for full details. I’m running Firefox 3 RC1 right now, and this post in and of itself is part of my testing. So far, so good.

  • Apple iPhone Purchase Requires a Credit Card

My father-in-law was in the Galleria Mall the other day, and heard that someone there was rather upset in the Apple Store. Seems the store was not willing to accept the customers fat wad of cash to purchase an iPhone. I thought, no way is that true, what store would forego the real US American…

  • Iron Man

Uh, wow! AWESOME MOVIE!!! Great dialogue, great actors, characters that react the way real people would, super-great comic action! I can’t wait to see it again, and then again. And then once more. CHEESEBURGER FIRST!

  • Robot Snow Shovel For Places That Don't Need It

With the incredibly inventive name I-Shovel, to boot. I’ve been expecting something like this, to be honest, but I can’t imagine it will be tough enough to work during a real snowstorm. Spotted at Gizmodo.

  • Steampunk Toy Modder Interviewed at Gizmodo

In case you haven’t seen his work before, check out Sillof’s Workshop, where the model maker creates and modifies action figures in fun ways. Want to see Han Solo and Chewie as WWII bomber pilots? Or the Justice League as Victorian-era heroes? You can now. Gizmodo interviewed Sillof to find out what prompted him to…

  • Iron Giant To Run In London Marathon

Lloyd Scott has constructed a 9 foot tall Iron Giant costume and will run inside it during the London Marathon. He is raising money for the Autism Trust. I am raising funds for a fantastic charity called the Autism Trust. The reason I chose a robot is that people often think autistic people have a…

  • Lifehacker Photo Roundup

We just got a new (inexpensive) digital camera, the Kodak EasyShare C613. Er, except ours is pink. Hey, it was the only one in stock and we wanted it before we went to the hospital. :P As I was already searching Lifehacker for half-remembered photo editing/managing links I thought I would share them with you.…

  • [insert robot overlords comment here]

I spotted this at Jalopnik, where they got to go and remote control the Black Knight Unmanned Combat Vehicle. 12 ton RC toy? Yes please.

  • iPhone SDK Doesn't Suck

Gizmodo has a roundup of their iPhone SDK coverage here, but the thing that jumped out at me (being a huge fan of Will Wright) is that the iPhone will have the full-blown version of Spore available for it. Other highlights include VOIP via WiFi and an AIM client, still no Flash though. iPod Touch…

  • DO WANT: Belt-fed Nerf Cannon

Losing your latest cubicle war? Maybe you need to upgrade your firepower. Gizmodo spotted the Nerf Vulcan EBF-25 at Toy Fair 2008. For $40, you get the cannon on a tripod, 25 ‘sonic’ darts (that whistle when fired), and the warm feeling in your pants when your coworkers duck for cover from your dart salvos.
