Keeping Busy

To keep you occupied: The Goose’s Roost has a solid breakdown of the Turner Gill/Auburn non-hiring, Sir Charles’s take, and a vid from tWWL from Outside the Lines on this subject. While I’d hate to see him go, as the city is catching on to just how good a coach he is for UB, I’m appalled at the reason that’s being mentioned for why Auburn passed (he’s married to a Caucasian woman). Thought Americans were getting past that. By the way, Gill just signed an extension to stay on with UB through 2013.

In Sabres news, Nathan “I’m full of tinier men!’ Gerbe is out ten days to two weeks with the famed upper body injury. It would be pretty hard for most NHL players to injure his lower body, to be honest, although Darcy Tucker I’m sure would find a way to crush his knee if he could. The Little General moves up to fill the spot, and The Kaleta! should be ready for action tomorrow night.

Craig Rivet has apparently been battling a shoulder injury, and the team has decided to shut him down for at least two weeks so he can heal. That might explain why he hasn’t been the same guy we saw early in the year, at any rate.

NHL.com mentions Thomas Vanek on their Hot List, and Atlas also garnered last week’s Third Star. His 5 goals last week were the most in the league. Good job, kid.

winterclassiclogoThe transformation of Wrigley for the second Winter Classic is under way.

By the way, those of you looking for a gift idea for a Sabres fan, Sabres.com is now touting their ‘Hat Trick’ ticket package, where you get two game tickets, a knit hat with the new old logo, and the Making of a Classic DVD. $99 for 300 Level II seats.

Switching gears a bit, Lifehacker has a post that highlights their most popular free windows downloads of the past year. Speaking of, Windows-based bloggers may want to check out the latest MS Live Writer.

One more software bit: Songbird is an iTunes competitor that runs on the Firefox model. Meaning it’s made better by add-ons.
