NHL Taking Another Look at Goalie Equipment

Ryan, it’s a good thing you’re on the competition committee, I guess. Commish Gary Bettman stated that the league will take a “good look” at the equipment that goaltenders wear/use in the NHL. The league last adjusted the equipment for the 05/06 season, reducing the pad sizes amongst other changes. Miller blames the smaller pads for the thumb injury he had that season. There is also contention about the knee pads (cutting you off at the pass with the PG-13 jokes now, thanks) which protects the knees of goalies that use a butterfly style, which is basically all of ‘em nowadays.
