Free Agency Deals a Blow to Sabres

I thought we were done with this, after the lockout? The Sabres lost both of their Co-Captains to free agency, and have yet to gain anyone. Briere has joined Martin Biron with the Flyers, signing an 8 year (!) 52 million dollar deal. The New York Rangers signed not one but two of the top free agent centers, adding Scott Gomez and our other Captain, Chris Drury. Dru’s deal is 5 years, $35.25 million. It’s hard to believe the Sabres will spend more than the 44 million they did last year, as they claim they will, if they don’t ever actually sign anyone. We still need a veteran center, so Zubrus is an option. I’d like a backup plan there as well, since Tim Connolly is one Chris Neil headshot away from thinking he’s Batman.
