Sabres beat Rangers 5-2
Apr 26, 2007 NHL
Buffalo ran over, around and through the New York Rangers in the 5-2 win at HSBC Arena. Both goaltenders were stellar in the first period, but in the second Thomas Vanek opened the scoring with a great deflection of a Dmitri Kalinin shot. The Sabres came right back down the ice with the ‘fourth line’ splitting the Rangers D for an Ales Kotalik wrister up over Henrik Lundqvist’s shoulder. Two minutes later, Thomas Vanek broke to the front of the net again, this time showing patience as he calmly skated around a Ranger defender who dropped to block his shot and put it behind Lundqvist for the eventual game-winner. Pominville scored on a goal that went to video review, and Drew Stafford out-worked Jaromir Jagr for an empty-netter to finish the scoring for the good guys. Hossa and Shanny had the two Rangers goals.
In the Sean Avery watch, he was hit as much as dished it out, and was a stellar -3 on 18 minutes of ice time. ;)
